Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) recorded more than an 8% year-on-year increase in domestic passenger movements for the third quarter of 2025, supported by a rebound in air travel and the addition of new flight routes.
Between July and September, MAHB handled a total of 26.9 million passengers across its Malaysian airports. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) alone contributed 16.3 million passengers, buoyed by holiday travel during the National Day period and several long weekends.
Traffic growth was also fuelled by the entry of new low-cost carriers such as China’s Jiangxi Air and Hong Kong’s budget airline Hong Kong Express, alongside 12 new route launches during the quarter, the airport operator said in a statement on Tuesday.
Managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said MAHB continues to expand its route network and strengthen partnerships with airlines as part of preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026. “We are focusing on key markets across ASEAN, South Asia, Northeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Southwest Pacific,” he said.
Beyond KLIA and its adjacent low-cost terminal klia2, MAHB oversees more than 30 airports nationwide.
Its overseas operations also reported robust growth. Passenger movements at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Türkiye, which MAHB manages, rose 21% year-on-year in the third quarter, driven by a 26.1% surge in international travellers to 7.4 million.
MAHB said the sustained recovery across both domestic and international operations reflects the aviation industry’s ongoing rebound and positions the group well for continued expansion ahead of 2026.
