Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced that 4,924,919 passengers used the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025, held between December 1 and 18, 2025.
Of the total ridership, 4,712,758 passengers travelled on the Doha Metro, while 212,161 passengers used the Lusail Tram. The combined networks recorded a daily average of 273,606 passengers during the tournament period.
Qatar Rail said the metro and tram networks played a vital role in moving fans and visitors to and from stadiums, fan zones, and key destinations across the country. The services were delivered through coordinated operations aimed at providing safe, reliable, and seamless transportation throughout both tournaments.
The Arab Cup Qatar 2025 was hosted at six venues—Lusail Stadium, Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Education City Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, and Stadium 974. Five of these stadiums were located within walking distance of metro stations, while spectators heading to Al Bayt Stadium were served by dedicated shuttle buses operating from Lusail QNB Metro Station.
Meanwhile, the three final matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025—the Americas Derby, Challenge Cup, and Intercontinental Cup Final—were staged at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, which is directly connected to Al Riffa (Mall of Qatar) Metro Station, on December 10, 13, and 17, respectively.
From an operational standpoint, Qatar Rail completed 48,422 train trips across both networks during the period, including 41,843 metro trips and 6,579 tram trips.
During the tournaments, 34% of spectators used the metro to attend matches, with usage rising to 50% for the five stadiums directly linked to metro stations, highlighting the impact of integrated public transport on event mobility.
The highest daily ridership was recorded on December 18, coinciding with Qatar National Day celebrations, the Arab Cup Final, and the third-place playoff. On that day, total ridership reached 357,287 passengers, comprising 347,987 metro users and 9,300 tram users.
Across the metro network, DECC, Lusail QNB, and Msheireb stations emerged as the busiest, while Legtaifiya Station recorded the highest footfall on the Lusail Tram network.
Qatar Rail said the successful operation of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram during both tournaments demonstrated the effectiveness of Qatar’s public transport system in supporting large-scale international sporting events and ensuring smooth mobility for residents and visitors alike.
