Old Doha Port has revealed plans to activate a dedicated maritime transport service for all future events, following the strong performance of the pilot service during the Qatar Boat Show 2025.
According to a statement issued by the port, the new service forms part of ongoing development programs aimed at upgrading facilities, improving visitor access, and elevating the overall experience at the landmark destination. The initiative is designed to streamline movement to and from the port, enhance comfort, and ensure smooth operations throughout major events.
The service will connect visitors to Old Doha Port from two main embarkation points — Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha and Pearl Island — providing a convenient and pleasant travel option. Officials noted that the project demonstrates effective coordination between various stakeholders working to improve mobility around the port.
More than 1,500 passengers used the maritime transport system over the four-day Qatar Boat Show, making it one of the event’s most notable attractions. Visitors were able to reach the exhibition venue effortlessly while enjoying a scenic approach to the port’s bustling waterfront.
The port stated that the success of the trial service reinforces Old Doha Port’s growing status as an international maritime hotspot that blends traditional Qatari heritage with the country’s modern vision. It also contributes to Qatar’s broader efforts to position itself as a leader in maritime tourism and innovation.
Eng. Mohamed Abdullah Al Mulla, CEO of Old Doha Port, said the port remains committed to delivering forward-thinking services that support the national maritime and tourism sectors. He highlighted that the positive reception of the transport service underscores the need to diversify access solutions for visitors.
Given the positive results, port officials confirmed that the maritime service will now become a permanent offering. An official tender to appoint a specialised operator is set to be issued soon, in line with announcements made during the unveiling of the 2025–2026 events calendar.
The expansion of the service marks another significant step in Old Doha Port’s development journey, helping to elevate visitor convenience, introduce innovative transport options, and reinforce the port’s role as a key venue for major events throughout the year.
