Msheireb Properties has announced the launch of the third edition of Baraha Cinema, running from December 25, 2025, to January 3, 2026. The event will feature an outdoor cinema experience with family-friendly films, seasonal activities, and a movie-inspired culinary programme.
As part of Msheireb Downtown Doha’s winter calendar, Baraha Cinema aims to provide accessible entertainment for families and visitors alike. Building on the success of the past two editions, this year’s event introduces a more immersive outdoor environment, reflecting Msheireb’s longstanding connection to Qatar’s cinema culture.
Dr. Hafiz Ali Abdulla, Senior Director of Corporate Communication at Msheireb Properties, said:
"Now in its third edition, Baraha Cinema continues a tradition that is integral to Msheireb’s place in Qatar’s cinema history. Over six decades ago, local residents would gather with family and neighbours to enjoy films outdoors, creating some of the earliest open-air screenings in the country.
This year, we revive that spirit with an experience that blends films, food, and community in the district where it all began. We hope visitors will enjoy the programme while connecting with a piece of Msheireb’s cultural heritage."
The 10-day festive film programme celebrates both classic adventures and contemporary animated favourites, designed to inspire joy and nostalgia.
The lineup includes timeless hits such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), and Night at the Museum (2006), alongside animated titles like Coco (2017), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), Alice in Wonderland (2010), Hotel Transylvania (2012), and recent releases including The Garfield Movie (2024) and Lilo & Stitch (2025).
Msheireb, Doha’s oldest district, holds historical significance in the development of cinema in Qatar. In the 1960s, residents—including employees of Dukhan oil company—screened films in their homes and courtyards using 16mm projectors. These informal gatherings evolved into community screenings at local sports and cultural clubs, laying the foundation for the country’s commercial cinema industry.
Baraha Cinema draws on this heritage, reviving the tradition of open-air film screenings in the district where it first flourished, while offering a contemporary experience for today’s audiences.
The initiative aligns with Msheireb Downtown Doha’s ongoing commitment to cultural and family-friendly programming throughout the year, providing a unique opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy a diverse film selection during the holiday season.
